Abstract:
Permanent magnet assisted reluctance (PMAREL) machine possesses a promising application prospect in the aircraft starter/generator (S/G) system. This article presents a high-performance generation control strategy for a dual-three-phase (DTP) PMAREL S/G system. By studying the DTP machine models in the synchronous frame, a generation control framework suited for the DTP PMAREL machine is provided, which consists of a current-control inner loop and a voltage-control outer loop. For the current control, the negative effects of the magnetic saturation on the conventional current-control method are studied. To eliminate the negative effects of the magnetic saturation and to achieve good high-speed control performance, an improved flux-loop-based internal-model-control current-control method is proposed. The performance and robustness of the proposed method are analyzed. For the voltage control, the load power feedforward technique is adopted to improve the dynamic performance of the generation control. Based on a prototype of DTP PMAREL S/G system, experiments are conducted and the results verify the correctness of the analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed method.
