Determination of the Damage Location on Multiphase and Multi-Wire Power Transmission Lines

The research is aimed at developing a methodology for determining the location of damage on multiphase and multi-wire power transmission lines, since such methods are unknown. The purpose of the study is to develop a methodology for calculating the location of damage and to demonstrate the results of computational experiments to determine the location of damage on a three-phase six-wire line. The technique is based on the numerical solution of systems of differential equations describing the electrical regime of a multi-wire line at measured currents and voltages at the ends of the line, with the representation of graphs of changes in currents and voltages along the line. The technique makes it possible to determine the place of damage as the intersection point of the graphs of modules and voltage angles constructed for each wire of a stranded line, when solving equations from one and the other ends of the line. To implement the method, the line model is represented by N sections of the same length, which take into account: the intrinsic resistances of the wires, the mutual induction resistances of each wire with each, the capacitive resistances between each wire and the "ground" and the resistances between the wires.

I. Introduction

The multiphase and multi-wire power lines allow to save territories for trail of power lines. During the operation of power transmission lines, short circuits and wire breaks occur. According to the operating conditions, the estimated and actual location of the damage (LD) must be found on the ground. There are methods and software for single-chain and double-chain power transmission lines [1]-[2]. However, there are no methods and software for the calculated determination of LD (DLD) on multi-wire transmission lines.
