We analyze and model a belt transmission system with non-circular timing pulleys. Using a 3D printer as a proof-of-concept device, experiments consisting of tracking the pose data of a printer nozzle and its pulleys are conducted. A computational model from our previous work is validated with the experimental data and expanded to model more complex systems with multiple non-circular timing pulleys...Show More
An experiment where a 3D printer attempts to repair itself by printing a sequence of increasing-in-quality parts is presented and analyzed. Perturbations are added to some parts of the mechanical structures in the printer to simulate damaged or worn-out parts. Mathematical modeling and simulations are used to predict the asymptotic behavior of the self-repair process after many repair attempts. We...Show More
