A corrugated Fermi tapered slot antenna (TSA) working at WR2.2 (330-500 GHz) is proposed in this paper. The proposed TSA adopts Fermi-structure tapering and corrugated edges to reduce the side lobes and improve the radiation patterns. It is fed by a microstrip line using a Marchand balun, and an E-plane probe is used as the power transfer between antenna chip and waveguide. The antenna is fabricat...Show More
This paper presents the design, simulation, and measurement of a detachable chip-to-chip interconnect operating from 140 to 220 GHz (the WR5.1 band). The design uses a 15-μm thick silicon substrate and is based on a self-holding interference taper which provides a self-aligned mechanical contact with sufficient force to ensure a low contact resistance. The measured results show good return loss ac...Show More
A 3D cube antenna for CMOS communication ICs is proposed in this paper. The antenna is fabricated on the surface of a cube for the interior CMOS chip placement. The antenna system consists of a meandered line antenna plated gold on three silicon planes of the cube and a balun on one plane. Three planes are then connected and folded by gold, and fixed in a plastic carrier. This antenna is designed ...Show More
This article presents the first demonstration of a sub-100 nW CMOS wakeup receiver (WuRx) with envelope detector (ED)-first architecture that operates at multigigahertz frequencies. The 2.2 GHz S-band WuRx can operate in two modes that show a tradeoff between power consumption and RF sensitivity. In the low-power mode, the WuRx consumes 11.3 nW and achieves an RF sensitivity of -65 dBm. In the hig...Show More
