The Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), has developed a multi purpose radar demonstrator for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) on the Off-road Light Autonomous Vehicle (OLAV) platform. The radar is designed to aid OLAV in navigation, detection and classification. Operating in off-road environments is a considerable challenge for autonomous vehicles, especially in the ...Show More
This paper describes the packaging and cooling design of a low-cost and compact X-band transmit/receive (T/R) module for a digital array radar, made by using both packaged and bare dies. Due to the high power generated by the Gallium-Nitride (GaN) dies and the dense environment, a liquid cooling system is required. The design and manufacturing of this cooling system is described together with ther...Show More
An 11 element crossed bowtie array antenna has been developed for use in Digital Video Broadcasting-Television (DVB-T) based passive radar. Simulation results of the array show a gain of 6 dB and measurements in anechoic chamber show more than 20 dB cross-polarized isolation. Co- and cross-polarized passive radar measurements of a Cessna 172 aircraft have been conducted and the results are compare...Show More
This paper presents the design of an X-band 8×8 digital array radar antenna with aperture-coupled stacked patch antenna elements. The use of a resonant aperture and stacked patches resulted in a -10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidth of 7.6-12.8 GHz (51%). Scan angles up to ±80 have been achieved for certain frequencies and ±55 for a frequency band of 8-8.50 GHz. The array has been built using lo...Show More
