We propose a distributed Brillouin temperature fiber sensor using a single-photon detector. In our scheme, the Rayleigh/anti-stokes ratio is used to measure the temperature information along the sensing fiber. A cascading fiber Bragg grating filter is employed to separate Brillouin anti-stokes signals from the backscattering Rayleigh light with a $\sim 23$ dB high rejection ratio. Benefiting fro...Show More
Phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) has been widely used in various applications for its distributed measurement capability of dynamic disturbance along the entire length of sensing fiber. However, traditional Φ-OTDR cannot make high-precision measurement on the external disturbance-induced strain due to the randomly distributed position and reflectivity of scattering points...Show More
We have proposed and experimentally demonstrated a distributed vibration and temperature sensing system based on the hybrid of phase-sensitive optical time domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) and fiber Bragg grating (FBG). An interrogation technique has been proposed by treating the low reflectivity Gaussian-shaped FBGs pair as an edge filter that linearly translates the wavelength shift into reflection...Show More
Phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (Φ-OTDR) has the ability to make a measurement on external disturbance dynamically along the sensing fiber by monitoring the interference fading pattern variance of the Rayleigh backscattering waveform through continuous probe pulse injection. However, even if there is no disturbance, the received Φ-OTDR trace will still show slow but noteworthy di...Show More
Phase sensitive optical time domain reflectometry is suitable for vibration detection due to its high sensitivity. However, for conventional amplitude-measuring method, the strain-amplitude relation is nonlinear and the monotonic interval of strain-amplitude transfer function is very small (corresponding to less than 2π phase shift in light duration). Thus, the vibration detection is qualitative a...Show More
