I. Introduction
The Internet of Things (IoT) is an intelligent infrastructure that will include all devices capable of communicating with each other wirelessly, providing a range of services and connecting people and devices on a large scale through the Internet. IoT is an emerging technology, with a wide spectrum of applications related to industrial control, smart metering, home automation, agriculture, healthcare and other applications. For these applications to run autonomously, IoT devices are required to survive for longer periods of time under strict energy constraints. Thus, radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting can be considered a promising solution for powering small devices and sensors used in the massive IoT ecosystem due to its simplicity in operation and cost efficiency.
