A Dual-Polarized Low Sidelobe High Efficiency Planar Antenna Array

The design of a dual-polarized low sidelobe high efficiency planar antenna array based on horn is presented. Taper amplitude distribution is used to control the sidelobe level. The dual polarization is realized by linking orthogonal mode transducer (OMT) to square horn. The antenna exhibits good performance. The sidelobe level is less than -18.03 dB and the efficiency is greater than 84.4% at Ku band. Besides, the gain at low frequency band is greater than 32 dBi and the gain at high frequency band is greater than 33 dBi.

I. Introduction

With the development of satellite communication technology, many mobile equipment is equipped with mobile satellite communication antennas in order to transfer large capacity information, such as image, voice, data and so on [1], [2]. The planar antenna was widely used in the airborne, navigation and weather radar field because of its advantage of high efficiency, low profile, compact size [3]–[7]. Therefore, the research of planar antenna has strong frontier and exploration.
