I. Introduction
G2P or LTS is a method used in Text To Speech synthesis. There are two fundamental phases called as Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) in the whole process of synthesis. In the later part of NLP processing, phoneme, syllables or words have to be mapped to their appropriate pronunciation for generation of utterance of the speech signal. There are many methods now a days to map the letters to their proper prosodic sound. The rules used to Generate sequence of phonetic units of a written text according to some rules is called as Letter to Sound rule. In most of the languages a pronunciation dictionary is used to map unseen text to its corresponding pronunciations. Sometimes it is seen that a null letter can also have some sound as well as a letter may not have sound at all. Depending upon structure of the language many pronunciation rules may be there. Accurate pronunciation is possible only by the language experts with hand written rules. Most of the time for Assamese language written form of text can directly be mapped to morpheme or sound units [1]. Very less amount of ambiguity is detected in Assamese. It means language has almost regular mapping between text and speech. In this paper we are discussing some obvious G2P rules for Assamese language which can be used as an aid or help made for lexicon search in mapping phase of synthesis. Only dictionary items are not enough to search for a pronunciation. Generally in the dictionary, words are stored with their prosodic information.
