Design of a media stream relay engine on the Android OS

The hierarchical network structure is proposed as a solution to the problem of decreased network performance for large-scale multimedia delivery in a single wireless LAN environment. However, the network structure on the Android OS is used for media streaming service; the role of the source device is important because a group owner delay causes a performance problem in which streaming data transmission to all Wi-Fi direct network groups creates a bottleneck. For a solution to these problems, we propose the media stream relay engine architecture and describe sequence diagrams for the development of a relay engine on the Android OS.

1. Introduction

Content sharing technologies are used between mobile smart devices for the provision and spreading of mobile smart devices; in particular, using N-screen technology, content between various smart devices can be shared [1]. When using N-screen technology for multimedia streaming among approximately 30 or more devices in a single wireless LAN environment, it is difficult to provide smooth multimedia streaming service because a large quantity of traffic is concentrated on the wireless AP and each device shares the same wireless channel. Thus, sharing causes a decrease in network bandwidth.
