Study of temperature fields and losses in high voltage cables under different layings

The temperature field and losses generated during the operation of high voltage cables are an important aspect of cable motion. However, existing studies have not been able to examine the actual laying of high voltage cables, so in this paper the horizontal and pinnacle laying of high voltage cables are investigated. Firstly, the causes of the temperature field of high voltage cables are analyzed, and the calculation equations and boundary conditions of the temperature field in different regions are proposed. Secondly, the loss calculation method for high voltage cables is derived based on Maxwell's set of equations. Finally, the temperature field and losses are studied through finite element simulation, and the temperature field and losses of single cable and three-phase cable under different laying methods are analyzed. The results show that: the temperature of high voltage cable under horizontal laying is lower than that of high voltage cable under pinnacle laying; the three-phase losses of high voltage cable under horizontal laying are different, and the three-phase losses of high voltage cable under pinnacle laying are more evenly distributed; the high voltage cable passing negative phase current losses are greater than the other two. The comparison with the results obtained from the calculation of the IEC-60287 standard verifies that the simulation in the paper is in line with the actual situation and provides a method for calculating the temperature field and losses for the safe operation of high voltage cables.
