An SIW Leaky-Wave Antenna With Electronically Controlled Beam Scanning Performance

In this paper, an SIW-based electronically controlled beam scanning leaky-wave antenna (LWA) is proposed. The SIW can achieve single mode transmission in Ku-band by rationalizing its width. 60 radiating units are arranged in two rows on top of the SIW transmission structure, and each unit leaks energy in the form of a slot excitation patch. By introducing PIN diodes on the units, the operating state of each radiating unit can be controlled independently, so that different aperture field distributions can be obtained. The simulation results also verify that the antenna can achieve a beam sweep from - 40° to 40 ° at 12.5 GHz.
