A CPW fed Metamaterial-Inspired Hexagonal Patch Antenna for Multiband Operation

A Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) fed hexagonal antenna is designed for multiband operation. The proposed antenna consists of a hexagonal monopole antenna with inspired Split Ring Resonators (SRRs). The overall size of the antenna is 30 × 30 × 1.6 mm

, FR-4 material having dielectric constant 4.4 and loss tangent 0.02 is used as a substrate material to the antenna. Impedance matching is done with optimization of feed dimensions. The step-by-step evolution of the proposed antenna is presented. The proposed antenna resonates at multiband frequencies such as 1.8 GHz, 3.18 GHz and 4.04 GHz with return loss −31.94 dB, −22.82 dB and −25.23 dB respectively. Multiband resonance characteristics are inferred from the good return loss characteristics. Characteristics of CSRR (Complimentary SRR) is analyzed from the frequency responses. The proposed antenna is designed and simulated using (High Frequency Structure Simulator) HFSS R2 2019 version and it is suitable for WiMAX and WLAN applications.
