Effect of Drum Ball Mill Lining Shape on Specific Energy Consumption

About 30% of the energy used in the extraction, transport, and processing of mineral raw materials falls on the milling process carried out by drum mills. The mills operating on the territory of Bulgaria are driven by electric motors with power from 1000 to 10,000kW. The aspiration is through management to achieve production quality with low energy consumption. For milling process efficiency, the objective function is low specific energy consumption (SpEC). The different shape and mass of the linings lead to a difference in the productivity and, accordingly power and specific energy consumption of the mills. In the present work, an analytical study of the influence of the shape of three types of linings on the SpEC of a drum ball mill (DBM) type МTP 4.5Х6 milling copper ores has been carried out. Profiles of the lifters are selected: straight ribs, herringbone, and wavy. The obtained results are shown in graphic form, and for this purpose, according to a developed algorithm, the data were entered into electronic tables for automatic calculation of SpEC during gradual wear of the mill linings. On the basis of the obtained results, the relevant conclusions were written. With the lowest SpEC and high productivity is a wavy profile.
