Multi-Input Multi-Output Hybrid Converter for Remote Islanded Application

This paper proposes a hybrid (MIMO) Multi-Input Multi-Output converter that provides simultaneous AC and DC outputs. The main thrust of the paper is to modify the two input two output MIMO converter into hybrid converter using (ASPWM)Augmented Sinusoidal Pulse width Modulation technique. The proposed hybrid converter provides one AC and one DC output. In order to obtain AC output, the two input stages use ASPWM. In ASPWM scheme, the switching strategy is such that two designated node voltages are out of phase by 180°. The AC output is tapped as a differential voltage between two chosen nodes. ASPWM ensures the availability of line frequency signals from two intermediate nodes of the converter. Such a hybrid converter will find its use, especially in remote area where grid connectivity is not available. This circuit is extensively simulated in Matlab Simulink for different operating conditions. This hybrid converter is dsigned for 800W DC and 50W AC output. Output voltages at the DC port is 133 V and at the AC port is 30 V RMS. Simple PI controllers are used for closed-loop operation and decoupled control at AC and DC output is obtained in the intended range of operation. A number of micro-hybrid converters can be cascaded to get a large AC output voltage and more DC ports at a remote islanded system.
