Dual-band antenna with independent band control achieved by two-section stepped impedance resonator

in this Letter, a stepped impedance resonator (SIR) dual-band antenna with independent band control using two-section SIR is proposed. The antenna is a double-layer medium substrate structure. The overall dimensions of antenna is 80×40×3.2(mm). The characteristics of SIR antenna are investigated by using transmission-line model method. The two passband frequencies can be designed and tuned independently. To demonstrate the analysis, an antenna with dual-band response operating at 1.57 GHz (GPS application band) and 2.5 GHz (WLAN application band) was designed, fabricated and measured. The measured result shows a good agreement with the analysis and full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations results.
