Resilience Assessment of Distribution Systems Against Extreme Weather Events: Flooding Threats in Iran's Electricity Network

An engineering system is usually designed to have the necessary endurance against normal accidents, and its performance is not easily affected in such conditions. But at the same time, this system must also have enough flexibility to adapt itself to a severe disturbance without losing its performance completely and restore quickly after the disturbance is removed. It is an important facet of infrastructure systems, such as power grids, called resilience. Generally, resilience studies investigate rare but wide-ranging phenomena that are accompanied by serious damage to network infrastructures. In this article, the issue of how to evaluate the resilience of power distribution networks against natural disasters has been discussed, firstly, the conceptual model and framework of the resilience of power networks have been developed, and then the hypothesis that all the damages caused by natural disasters in the infrastructure of the power network have their own effect will be shown in the network load, the modeling of the response of the electricity distribution network in several provinces of Iran to several unusual natural phenomena is done, and by examining these drawn models, suitable indicators for measuring and measuring the level of resilience are provided. In the following, by drawing the pyramid of the resilience of power distribution networks, effective suggestions are presented to create a long-term planning approach to increase the resilience of the power network and prepare it to face natural disasters.
