Optimization and Performance Investigation of High Precision Permanent Magnet Linear Motor

A permanent magnet linear motor with a fractional-slot concentrated winding design for a laser cutting machine is proposed and optimized is this paper. This motor has high precision and strong stability. Firstly, the structure of the PMLM with 9-slot/l0-pole combination is introduced. Secondly, design parameters that mainly effect thrust ripple are selected by Taguchi method. Moreover, the response surface model of the PMLM is established, and objective optimization using a particle swarm algorithm is performed directly to the RSM. Moreover, the electromagnetic performance is predicted and analysed by finite element method in detail. Finally, the thrust ripple of the optimized PMLSM is further reduced through skewed pole design. Compared with the original PMLM, the optimized PMLM with 1/3 skewed pole pitch shows better force performance, which indicates the effectiveness of the proposed optimization method.
