Design and Analysis of a Double-Stator Permanent Magnet Linear Motor Using Single-Sided Phase-Group Concentrated-Coil Windings

This paper proposes a double-stator permanent magnet linear motor (DS-PMLM) using single-sided phase-group concentrated-coil (PGCC) windings. Since the rare earth permanent magnets are limited by price and supply, the proposed motor utilizes low-cost ferrite magnets. And the problem of low thrust force density is overcome by using spoke-type magnet configuration and PGCC windings. To verify the benefits of the proposed DS-PMLM, it is compared with a single-stator permanent magnet linear motor. The results show that the detent force of DS-PMLM is greatly reduced by 38.30%, and has a 17.58% reduction of thrust force ripple. Furthermore, the sinusoidal quality of the back electromotive force of the proposed DS-PMLM is also improved. Finally, the multi-objective optimization for the lower stator is used to suppress the detent force and thrust force ripple.
