Experimental Platform Design of Extracting and Analyzing Structural Features of Dorsal Hand Vein Infrared Image

In the course teaching of digital image processing, developing new experimental content and platforms is crucial to strengthen student's understanding of the corresponding theories or knowledge. In this paper, we designed and developed a friendly interactive experimental platform for extracting and analyzing structural features of near infrared dorsal hand vein (DHV) images, which is a critical step in DHV biometrics. When doing experiments on the platform, students only need to input the original images into the system. Then, a series of operations e.g. image preprocessing, region of interest (ROI) extracting, main vessel width measuring, crossing point number measuring and statistical analysis, etc, can be carried out conveniently. Students can understand intuitively the experimental content. The testing results demonstrated that the platform was a promising experimental tool with rich functions and easy operation.
