Students' Experiences in Using Learning Management System (Canvas): Application of TAM and Sentiment Analysis

In today's digital society, technological advancement plays an important role in the economy and in honing students' minds. This research paper aims to determine the students' experiences using the learning management system (Canvas-Instructure) during the flexible learning modality of a higher education institution (HEI) in Central Luzon, Philippines. The researcher utilized a descriptive-survey research design to determine students' experiences based on the modified technology acceptance model (TAM) questionnaire on perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), behavioral intentions (BI), and actual use (AU) dimensions. Qualitative data collected on the open-ended question was analyzed through Sentiment Analysis in an open-source machine learning and data mining toolkit. The survey gained “strongly agree” on the three dimensions: PU, PEOU, and BI while AU gained a rating of “agree” indicating that the student's experiences were positive. Also, the result shows a “neutral” sentiment drawn from the gathered data during the survey using Natural Language Processing technique (NLPT). Further investigation may be recommended for future researchers who want to pursue advanced studies on the topic.
