A Fast Transient Response Hybrid LDO with Asynchronous Control Mechanism

This paper proposes a fast transient response hybrid low-dropout regulator (FHLDO) with asynchronous binary search domino control mechanism. In order to improve the tracking speed, the domino binary search is used to achieve fast settling time. After asynchronous domino binary search mechanism completed, the analog low-dropout regulator loop still works to fine tracking region. Additionally, the non-clock voltage error detector enhances the detection of load transients. The proposed FHLDO is implemented in UMC 180nm1P6M. The maximum output current of 50mA, settling time is 31ns and the max current efficiency is 99.8%.
