Design of dual active bridge for DC microgrid application

The paper describes the design process of a 25kW dual active bridge converter for DC microgrid purposes. The design assumptions were established in such a way as to maintain the universality of the system to enable efficient and reliable work with stationary or mobile energy storage and photovoltaics. The working conditions for the converter’s crucial semiconductor and passive parts were determined in simulations. PCB features and construction of enclosure were also thoroughly described. During the design, different types of phase-shift modulation were examined, and the prototype’s power efficiency measurements were also included in the presented results. Thanks to implemented extended phase shift modulation, the converter operates with high efficiency even if the DC voltage of the input and output circuits significantly differs.
