Challenges and Opportunities of China’s IC Industry in The Post-Moore Era: Role of The Integration between Industry and Education in Supporting The Interdisciplinary Technology Transformation

In this work, we reviewed the current state of the global and native IC manufacturing industry. Showing a retarding development pace, the whole industry is encountering unprecedented challenges from both the device and architecture technologies. The major technological challenges faced by the industry were investigated, following by an outlook on the future directions of the IC-based computing technology. Either new device or new architecture are needed to replace the current device and architecture paradigm for further expansion of the computing capability. With regard to China’s IC manufacturing development, the production capacity and technology advancement need to be urgently improved. Technology transformation from research institutions to the industry is a good way, and a pilot line incorporated with a multidisciplinary research institution to realize this kind of integration between the industry and education was proposed.
