Analysis and Practical Implementation of an Independent Double Buck Interleaved Converter

This paper presents and analyzes the operation of a patented bidirectional dc-dc converter power stage topology, working in step-down (buck) mode. The structure of the proposed and analyzed step-down dc-dc converter is called “Independent Double Buck Interleaved Converter (IDbIC).’' The study of the investigated power stage structure was conducted both theoretical and experimental. Theoretical study stage includes the following objectives: presentation of the dc-dc converter power stage, development of a mathematical model for continuous conduction mode (CCM) of the IDbIC, and the implementation of a simulation and validation model for the results obtained in the mathematical - analytical model. Also, within the experimental study, a physical model of the proposed power stage converter was developed. On the same prototype, the functionality of the IDbIC converter structure was validated. Moreover, using the experimental prototype, the power stage efficiency of the proposed dc-dc converter, was determined at various levels of input voltage and output power.
