Performance Evaluation of Millimeter-wave Considering Rain Fade using NYUSIM Model

Atmospheric attenuation has a highly negative and complex effect on wireless communication networks, it is a result of the extremely high temperatures, oppressive humidity, vegetation, and increased rainfall rates. Planning and designing for the next wireless communications system, utilizing a proper model is crucial for determining the best and acceptable frequencies. This article discusses various effects of weather on the intensity of the sent signal in various settings and circumstances. Additionally, the behavior of the millimeter wave as it traverses empty space and the environment is investigated under the effect of various impediments. Predictions of the channel's performance are made using the NYUSIM simulator program, explained with the help of the close-in path loss model. To evaluate the channel's effectiveness and choose the best frequency for a tropical setting with rain attenuation of 144.25 mm/hr on a 500m path length between transmitter and reception antenna, four frequencies-30 GHz, 40 GHz, 60 GHz, and 80 GHz were used. Research has also been done on the crucial propagation channel characteristics such path loss, path loss exponent, and received power while taking rain attenuation into account. According to the simulation findings, the 30 GHz frequency is suitable due to its decreased path loss and adequate received power. This study demonstrates the need for comprehensive solutions to the problem of providing fantastic coverage and incredibly dependable communication for outdoor and outdoor-to-indoor applications in tropical climates while it's raining.
