Indoor Human Location Method for FMCW Radar Using Standard Deviation Weighting

For indoor detection radar, a challenging problem is to suppress stationary clutter in indoor environments. In this paper, we propose a simple method to improve the visibility of human in clutter. Considering the motion nature of the human body, the standard deviation of each range bin that represents the fluctuation level across the slow time window is exploited to weight the range-angle spectrum. Consequently, the human location is highlighted and the static clutter is suppressed. Experiments from the actual radar data demonstrates that even if multiple targets are in the same range bin the proposed method can still distinguish them and suppress the strong clutter interference at very low cost.
