PI Tuning of High-bandwidth Buck Converters Based on Genetic Algorithm and Accurate Small-Signal Model

Buck converters are widely used in Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC). Controller design determines their performance and PI controller is popular for its simplicity. Classical tuning method mainly uses average small-signal model to design PI parameters. This method is simple and quick but invalid for systems under high control bandwidth. Recently, intelligent algorithm based on simulation is also proposed. This method features general effectiveness but time-consuming. In this paper, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is combined with an accurate small-signal model to obtain a new tuning method, which is not only effective but also time-saving for Buck converters under high control bandwidth. Simulations validate the advantages of proposed method.
