Bandwidth Enhancement of Power-Electronics-Based Mission Profile Emulator with Reference Current Feedforward

Power-electronics-based mission profile emulator (MPE) is becoming a vital tool for the testing of power electronic converters. Typically, the current behaviors of the emulator are regulated by a closed-loop current controller (CLCC). However, the closed control loop behaves like a low-pass filter, which will distort the dynamic and high-frequency performances of the emulator. In this paper, a bandwidth-enhanced current controller (BECC) is proposed to increase the control bandwidth of MPE with the reference current feedforward. The control bandwidth of the emulator can be significantly enhanced without increasing the control parameters. Compared with typical CLCC, both static and dynamic performances can be accurately recreated. Simulations and experiments are provided to validate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.
