Solar Array Regulation for High-Voltage Satellite Power Bus

This work proposes a solar array regulation technique for high-voltage power bus based on zero-voltage, zero-current power switching cells controlled in a sequential manner to provide tightly regulated bus voltage, fast transient response, and simple control loop design. Currently, 300V bus voltage is being considered for large satellite (>20kW) platforms to cope with demanding electrical propulsion systems and high-power payload. Moreover, higher bus voltage is also envisaged for other space applications, like Solar Power Satellites or Lunar Power Plant. Solar array regulation technique for bus regulation and battery charging are described in this work. Design and computer simulation are included to validate the proposed system, considering the European Space Agency standards.
