Meta-Heuristic Algorithm to Research on Path Planning Problem of Optical Fiber Transmission Network

This study investigates the application of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to find optimum path of optical fiber. Because of the vast developments in network technology, which led to continuous increase in the network bandwidth, and thus contributed to the improvement of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and the network capacity. This work suggests an improvement in the transmission efficiency of the network by finding an optimal network layout. A PSO algorithm was used to find the optimal path for a number of Baghdad districts in 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 regional fiber networks by creating different communication paths between the selected regions. The study was carried out using MATLAB. In this paper, the optimization method for basic WDM network layout as well as continuity issues in network layout are discussed. The result shows that, the number of cities, iterations and propulsion size are important parameters that effect the best distance of optical path at minimum cost. From this study can be conclude a best distance appear in 30 city of Baghdad with iteration 70 is 1354.3139 km, while when choose 10 cities with iteration 100 a distance is 448.54 km. The PSO algorithm gives a good result and can be applied in may industrial and engineering applications.
