Social Perception of Renewable Energies in the Coastal Zone of South Brazil

The main goal of the work is to present the social perception of renewable energies in the coastal zone of south Brazil. The study was carried out between 2014 and 2022, including opinion research based on a questionnaire application. Three surveys were conducted in two municipalities located in the coastal zone of Santa Catarina State, South Brazil. The results demonstrate a certain disparity in the knowledge related to sustainability, coastal zone, and renewable energies. 96% of the respondents consider wave energy very good or good as the energy source for the coastal municipality in the south of Brazil. Solar energy presents positive acceptance. The public perception proved to be more favorable for photovoltaic distributed generation than for solar energy in general. Wind energy also presented a positive acceptance in the coastal zone of south Brazil, indicating a good scenario in social perception mainly for offshore wind energy.
