Increasing Renewable Energy Participation in Sudan

The fast ascension in renewable energy sources (RES) technologies design and national/continental/global policies implementation strongly support the unfolding of renewable energy-based systems. The African power infrastructure and energy generation spectrum needs an upgrade in order to ensure wider energy access to its population and diminish energy poverty. The investigation centers on Sudan, which represents a particular case, given its dependence on fossil fuel exploitation correlated with its depletion. Foreseeing RES capacity development and diversification, the impact of their coupling to the national grid must be investigated. To prevail over the potential drawbacks, special studies regarding modern devices employment, such as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) are necessary. Moreover, development perspectives are discussed and compared based on relevant scenarios.
