Supervisor design for an assembly line in the presence of faults

A supervisory control architecture is developed for the discrete event model of a manufacturing educational testbed of a car assembly line in the presence of faults. The task of the plant is the assembly of the chassis and the roof of a car. The backbone of the assembly line is a transporter that makes the link of all sections of the plant. The goal of the paper is the coordination of the line. To accomplish this goal, the model of the plant in the presence of faults is derived, appropriate regular languages describing the desired performance of the plant are developed and finally appropriate supervisors, satisfying the design requirements, are determined in modular form. To satisfy the class of design requirement considered here, general criteria for the physical realizability of a supervisor, with respect to any process, are established.
