Design and Performance of Π-Shape Slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna Arrays

In wireless communication, it is inevitable that antennas that have low profile, light weight, low cost, with simple way of manufacture, flexibility in parameters like space pattern, gain, band width and VSWR are required. μ(Micro)strip patch antennas are available at low cost, size, better performance, simplicity in setting up and ease of integration to circuits and elevated competence are preferable in that situation. The Principle of slotted patch is used in this work to reduce the size of rectangular patch antenna. In this work various π-shape arrays of antenna are considered for the application of WLAN (2.4-2.48 GHz), C (6.04 GHz), X (8.51 GHz) and Ku (13.29 GHz) bands respectively. In this work arrays of 1x2 and 2x2 configurations are designed using μ strip line, coaxial and aperture coupled feed techniques. The proposed arrays are considered and simulated on FR4 with ε

= 4.4 and Rogers RT/duroid 5870(tm) with ε

= 2.33. The π-shape slotted antenna arrays parameters like S11, bandwidth and gain are obtained for the above frequencies and the same are presented with HFSS software.
