A Fast and Simple Analytical Approach for Prediction of Vibration in Interior Permanent Magnet Motors for Traction Applications

This paper investigates the electromagnetic forces in interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors for prediction of vibration by a fast and simple analytical approach. A one-dimensional (1D) magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) model is developed to compute the air gap flux density. The no-load radial and tangential components of the air gap flux density, magneto-motive forces (MMF) are obtained by 1D-MEC combined with Fourier series. A complex air gap permeance function is used to consider the slotting effect and to compute slotted radial and tangential air gap flux density. Maxwell stress tensor (MST) is used to investigate the electromagnetic forces and the spectrogram is drawn for radial and tangential forces. An automotive IPM motor is investigated as a reference motor. The results obtained by the proposed approach are compared with the experimental ones and a good agreement between the results is achieved.
