Control of Six-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Electric Vehicle Application

This paper includes the modelling of six-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and Field Oriented Control (FOC) of motor with two different type of controller to achieve better performance for Electric Vehicles (EV). The former one is conventional PI controller and the later one is Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy (TS-Fuzzy) controller. A comparative study has been presented on the basis of overshoot, settling time and overall transient and steady state performance of speed and torque. Six-phase PMSM of rating 1.2 kW is modelled in MATLAB SIMULINK and its performance is tested under various speed and torque reference which are required for EVs. It can be observed that the performance of fuzzy based controller is better than conventional PI controller in all the above listed aspect.
