Performance Enhancement of UWB Cavity-backed Monopole Antenna

In this paper, an improved version of cavity-backed UWB monopole antenna has been presented. An antenna showed a significant improvement in gain and bandwidth when corners of the conventional rectangular/square ground plane were rounded, and a circular cavity behind the monopole replaced the square cavity. Simulations were performed to verify the effectiveness of circular cavity and circular ground plane in antenna performance. The results indicate that the proposed antenna features an impedance bandwidth of 115% for 12.6 dB broadside peak gain. Hence, the updated version improved the impedance bandwidth by 25% and the peak gain by 2.6 dB.
