Design of a 5.8 GHz 1-bit Reconfigurable Slotted SIW Antenna Array with Four Elements

The design and simulations of a flexible beam-scanning slotted SIW antenna array is presented. The proposed element consists of two rectangular slots with opposite electric field directions on the metal surface. By turning on or off one of the two switches located in the center of the slots and making the other switch in the opposite state, one of the slots is excited, thus achieving 1-bit quantization phase with 180 ° phase difference. The simulated reflection coefficient at both phase states is -35.1 dB at 5.8 GHz. A 1-bit 4-element beam-scanning antenna array with the length of 128.0 mm is simulated. The -10 dB simulated impedance bandwidth of the 0 ° beam is 8.6%, the peak gain at 5.8 GHz is 11.6 dBi while the aperture efficiency is 70.4%, the beam scanning is ranged from -56 ° to +56 °.
