Torque Ripple Reduction for a DC Assisted Unipolar SRM Drive Operating Under MTPA Condition

This paper discusses speed control of DC assisted switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system operating under maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) condition. In the DC assisted drive each phase of SRM is excited by a sinusoidal current with a DC shift. The advantage with this method is that it reduces the noise level in the SRM drive. For further acceptability of this control technique the ripple content in the torque needs to be decreased and therefore a method for torque ripple reduction is proposed in this paper based on injection technique. The usefulness of the proposed method is verified through exhaustive simulation under different conditions on MATLAB/SIMULINK platform.
