Sliding Mode Observer based Sensorless control of Five level inverter fed Fuzzy Logic based DTFC SVM Controlled PMSM drive

This paper proposes a five-level inverter-fed sensorless PMSM drive with a fuzzy logic-based speed controller. The PI based speed controller requires fixed gain values which provides poor performance under sudden change of speed or load torque disturbances. In order to improve the performance of drive over a wide speed range, Sliding mode observer based speed estimation method is implemented to avoid the usage of speed sensor. This technique offers an alternative to existing sensorless techniques in observing the rotor angle as it adapts to the operating speed of PMSM drive. The design of a sliding mode observer (SMO) based on the machine model as well as the feedback gain selection for speed adaptation has been presented. Simulation outcomes are shown to assess the designed observer.
