High-temperature Breakdown Property of P(VDF-TrFE) Composite for Film Capacitor

Ferroelectric polymer P(VDF-TrFE) has been widely studied as an energy storage material for capacitors due to the high dielectric constant. However, relatively low breakdown strength and high loss limit the energy storage density and efficiency of P(VDF-TrFE). In this paper, a micro-doped h-BN/P(VDF-TrFE) composite is prepared to improve the high-temperature breakdown strength and increase the energy storage density without compromising efficiency. The breakdown strength of the composites at 85 °C is increased by 34.6 % and the conductivity is decreased by 80 %. The energy storage density is increased from 3.85 to 8.62 J/cm
³
, and the efficiency is also slightly improved. The deep trap density in the composite is increased significantly, which greatly suppresses the conductance and breakdown process. The h-BN/PVDF composite show great potential as the dielectric for energy storage capacitors.
