Characteristics of Water-Cooling Dielectric Barrier Discharge Spraying Nozzle

We have developed a portable ozone-mist spraying system as one of the potential ozone applications in agriculture because ozone effectively sterilizes viruses, bacteria, and pests. The previous works developed the ozone-mist spraying system using dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) and a nozzle. The study confirmed that ozone-mist spray could control the pest in a short time with a very high ozone concentration that becomes a possible promising insecticidal method for agriculture. However, it is required to improve the ozone-mist spray system by controlling it to a target plant easily and effectively. This work developed a water-cooling DBD spraying nozzle, which improves the conventional ozone-mist spraying system by applying an electric field to the ring electrode. The ozone-mist nozzle’s ozone concentration and sterilization effect in which a water-cooling grounded electrode and a high-voltage electrode were incorporated were evaluated. Additionally, the specific charge of ozone-mist was studied by placing a ring electrode for induction charging. It was found that induction charging of ozone-mist could increase the efficient attachment of ozone ist to targets by applying a dc voltage to the additional ring electrode.
