Simulation and Experiment of Ultrasonic Critically Refracted Longitudinal Wave Penetration Depth of Carbon Fiber Composite

In this study, the refraction and propagation of ultrasonic waves in anisotropic materials are analyzed through a wedge by finite element simulation. And the characteristics of the propagation depth of the critical refractive longitudinal (LCR) waves are observed through grooves of different depths. LCR waves are excited in two carbon fiber composite plates with two kinds of laminate modes of 0 degrees and 0-90 degrees. The LCR wave penetration depth of these two carbon fiber composites is roughly characterized. This study provides guidance for future research on the detection of surface stress and structural health of carbon fiber composite materials using LCR waves.
