A Design of Ku-Band Dual-Axe Shaped Microstrip Antenna with Two Slots

The Ku-band is used as a communication band between satellites, such as Tracking and Data Relay (TDRS) satellites for the International Space Station and Space Shuttle communications. In the field of satellite broadcasting, Ku-band is also a commonly-used band. This paper presents a design of a Ku-band dual-axe shaped microstrip antenna with semi-open slots. The design methodology and simulation results are given in the paper. The major function frequency of this antenna was 15.1 GHz, with the bandwidths for antenna return loss of -10 dB and -15 dB were 1.26 GHz and 0.66 GHz. Furthermore, the main lobe magnitudes of the working function was 6.35 dBi. The gain of the antenna was higher than 6.0 dBi from 13.9 GHz to 16.3 GHz.
