Aperture Coupled MSA with Low Back lobe for X Band Weather Radar Application

A dual-polarized microstrip antenna (MSA) with high back lobe suppression for a practical array to be deployed in weather radar application is proposed in this paper. The antenna is designed for the required frequency range of 9.35-9.4 GHz. The designed patch antenna having overall dimension

mm yields excellent impedance matching over 9.35-9.4 GHz both for horizontal and vertical polarization with peak gain of 5.15 dBi and 5.05 dBi for H- and V- polarization. The port isolation between the two polarization is > 28 dB, and co to cross-polarization suppression better than 28 dB is achieved for the unit cell.
