Carbon-aware Integrated Energy System Operation with Demand Response

The power and gas sectors must take the responsibility to pave the way to reduce their carbon emissions to realize the commitment of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. The developing power-to-gas and gas turbines tighten the relationship between power and gas networks. So this paper proposes the carbon-aware integrated energy system optimization model with demand response. It formulates the DC power flow-based power network, piecewise-based gas transmission network, energy hub, and the demand response model. Based on the models, It presents the carbon model, which analyzes carbon emission from power generators and energy hubs and utilizes the emission quota-based trading mechanism to incentivize low carbon operation of the IES. We finally propose the carbon-aware IES operation model based on the cost of carbon trading, demand response, and fuel. The case study on the 9-node system verifies the carbon reduction effectiveness of the proposed model.
