Design of an Internet of Things project for electronic instrumentation training of industrial engineers

Active learning methodologies based on projects bring students closer to autonomous and more applied learning than the one obtained in traditional teaching. Internet of Things (IoT) and low cost electronics provide authentic electronic instrumentation systems to be used in a more applied, attractive and motivating learning for Masters' degree engineering students. This paper presents, as a demonstrator, the design of a project-based learning activity applied to a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering for designing an IoT device capable of measuring, processing, and transmitting information. Using an Arduino MKR WAN 1300 board through a LORAWAN network based on The Things Network, data are sent to a Google Sheets application which stores and processes them in real-time.
