I. Introduction
The transmission of electrical energy using High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) has many advantages over conventional AC transmission lines such as the reduced transmission losses and the operating costs for long distances [1]. In addition, the future HVDC networks are expected to ensure a better control of power flows coming from renewable resources, thanks to the development of power electronics components and topologies [2]. As a consequence, the development of more reliable insulation systems for HVDC components is a major topic that interests both scientific and industrial communities.
