Low VHF Wire Antenna with Low-cost and Wideband Properties

We propose a portable, low-cost, and wideband antenna includes two sections of its radiator and a matching network, all connected in series in that order. The heights of radiator and the implemented high-impedance coaxial cable between radiator and matching network are 162cm and 80cm, respectively. Using the first simulation results of such a structure, it is revealed that its radiation pattern can be omnidirectional in a frequency range in low VHF. With the help of a wide-band balun, the fabricated structure is practically biased and using a designed matching network, its bandwidth is broaden. The balun and matching network are located inside the base section. In each step of the design, the fabricated structure is measured. By means of the final measurements, it is shown that the resultant structure has 115% bandwidth (30~108MHz) with VSWR<2.6. In addition to, its maximum gain is 1.7dBi at 90MHz. Such a very simple mechanical structure is shorter than the available commercial ones within low-VHF band and suitable for mounting on vehicles.
